Get Ready For A Taste Of Spring Across Eastern Carolina

It may feel more like spring than winter across our area by the weekend.

A warm wedge of air will gradually move into eastern Carolina as we head through the week.  Temperatures will be in the upper 50s Tuesday but could hit the lower 70s by the time we reach the weekend.  High pressure along the East Coast will block any intrusions of cold air into the region until at least early next week.  There may be a day or two that some locations have record highs.  It would need to hit the middle to upper 70s to break records in most communities, even in early to mid-January.

Temperatures have been averaging well above normal this winter.  In fact, most locations will likely be averaging at least 5° above normal when we look at the period from December 1 to January 15.  It does appear that the last half of winter will be colder but it is still unclear as to how much cold air can actually reach our region.  I'll give an update on my forecast for late January and February next week.
