The first widespread frost of the fall season is likely by Saturday night.

Colder and drier air is filtering into eastern North Carolina late Friday and it will lead to the coolest weekend so far this fall season.  Temperatures overnight will dip into the lower to middle 30s on Saturday and Sunday nights.  Winds will become light as high pressure over the Midwest builds over the area.  A Freeze Watch is in effect for Saturday night for Halifax, Edgecombe, Nash, Wilson and Wayne counties.  Temperatures in these counties could fall to or slightly below the freezing mark by sunrise Sunday.  We may see a repeat on Sunday night with high pressure still located over the area.  The average date for a hefty frost and/or light freeze is the second week of November across inland areas of eastern North Carolina.  It looks like cold weather has arrived just about on schedule.  The high will finally move off the coast Monday allowing somewhat warmer air to move into the area.  Afternoon highs during the weekend will average in the middle 50s.
