Dry And Hot

It has been a dry and hot period since the beginning of May.

Much of eastern North Carolina remains in a moderate to severe drought with little relief expected this week. Highs keep jumping into t he 90s each afternoon taking what little moisture is left for vegetation to use. Since May 1 the WITN Weather Station has received only .73" of rainfall. Normal rainfall for the period is 5.45". The lack of rain has occurred at a critical time for farmers and gardeners. Most outdoor plants need a goodly amount of moisture during the spring and summer for growth to full maturity. The short-term forecast is not promising with a continuation of above normal temperatures and poor prospects for rain. It appears the weather pattern may slowly evolve into a more moist pattern next week. It remains to be seen if we can finally get the rainfall we need.
