Last week's heavy rainfall has ended the drought and abnormally dry conditions across eastern North Carolina. As much as 20 inches of rain fell along the Highway 17 corridor inundating many communities along the route. Most of the rivers and streams across the area have already crested and water levels are falling. Sunny skies and warm temperatures through the weekend will continue to dry out the area. Areas west of Raleigh and Fayetteville are still abnormally dry with a small sector near Charlotte still in a moderate drought. Little rainfall is expected for the next week.
