Better Chances For Rain

The weather pattern will produce more showers and thunderstorms through the end of the week.

Eastern North Carolina has been stuck in a hot and dry weather pattern since April but changes appear to be taking place.  The large ridge of high pressure that has given us dry conditions will weaken over the next few days.  The weakening ridge will allow moisture to slowly increase across the area and that will give us a better chance for showers and thunderstorms.  The scattered nature of rainfall during the summer months is never a guarantee that everyone will get the rain they so desperately want.  However, the weather pattern does provide the best chance for widespread rainfall.  Most communities should see at least one or two showers by the upcoming weekend.  It won't end the drought but it could certainly put a dent in the long-term dry conditions.  It would certainly be great news for farmer, gardeners and those just trying to keep their lawns alive.
