A Cold December Across Eastern North Carolina

The month of December could go down as one of the coldest on record.

December has been one of the coldest in many years.  Temperatures have averaged about 10 degrees below normal with just one more day to go.  Not only has December been cold but snow has fallen on at least 4 days in many locations.  In fact, accumulating snow has fallen on 3 days at the WITN Weather Station.  Total snow accumulation has been 7.5 inches during the month.  Snowfall averages about 4 inches for an entire winter.  It is hard to imagine this level of cold air can stick around for much longer.  In fact, we'll see a nice warm-up over the weekend with highs in the 60s.  Seasonably chilly air will follow early next week with highs in the upper 40s to lower 50s, along with sunny skies.  I'll give my January forecast on Friday evening.
