The weather pattern is finally returning to normal December weather after a mild period for the first half of the month. Temperatures for the first 11 days have averaged between 9 and 10 degrees above normal. More seasonable weather can be expected for the remainder of this week before another mild spell develops over the weekend into early next week. It appears that next week's mild spell will be followed by much colder weather as we get closer to Christmas and the first of the year. A much stormier pattern can also be expected and that means much more rain than we've seen lately. It is too early to give a specific forecast for Christmas but if history repeats itself, it is unlikely eastern Carolina will have a White Christmas. There has only been one significant and widespread White Christmas across eastern Carolina in the past 100 years so odds are not very good. Regardless, it appears it will be feeling a lot more like Christmas than what we've seen lately.
