A Brief Break Before The Chill Returns

Eastern North Carolina got a reprieve from the cold Wednesday but it is unlikely to continue.

Temperatures soared into the lower to middle 70s across eastern North Carolina Wednesday.  It felt good for many of us who have endured a long and cold period of weather.  We've averaged about 7 degrees below normal since December 1 so a little warmth really felt special.  The chill will return overnight with lows dipping into the 30s.  Highs will only be in the 40s Thursday and Friday with more rain arriving by Friday afternoon and evening.  Temperatures will remain seasonable through the weekend into early next week.  There are hints that colder air will arrive by the middle of next week.  Winter is not ready to give up yet.
