Eastern North Carolina has finally received a break from the intense heat. Today was only the second day since June 22 that the temperatures stayed below 90°. Highs will continue to stay below 90° through Friday before a return to the lower 90s over the weekend. Along with the cooler temperatures, we'll continue to see a 40% to 50% risk of showers and thunderstorms through Friday. The rain has been great for the gardens, crops and lawns. Conditions will continue to dry out as we head into the weekend. It now appears that above normal temperatures will continue next week. We may see several days reach the lower to middle 90s. We should see some showers and thunderstorms accompany the heat. For now it doesn't look like a repeat of last year's heat and lack of rainfall. We can only hope.
