Excessive Heat For The Weekend

The heat will become more intense over the weekend as temperatures and the heat index continue to soar.

This summer has been unusually hot across the Southeast along with drier than normal conditions.  The trend is not likely to change over the next few days.  Highs will reach the upper 90s to near 100 degrees both Saturday and Sunday.  The beaches will see plenty of sunshine with highs in the lower 90s.  The heat index is likely to hit 105 degrees or higher in some sections.  Some counties were put under an excessive heat warning as heat indices hit 110 degrees or higher.  More counties may be placed under the heat warning on Saturday and Sunday.  A cool front will drop into the area and stall across eastern North Carolina Monday.  Clouds and the showers will be on the increase at that time, keeping temperatures slightly cooler.  Early next week we should see highs in the lower 90s.
