A very hot surge of air will move into eastern North Carolina this week. Highs will reach the middle to upper 90s each day through the upcoming weekend. Highs on Friday and Saturday could break above 100 degrees at some inland locations. The relative humidity will be in the moderate to high range giving us heat indices of 105 to 110 degrees. A heat advisory will likely be posted for each afternoon and early evening. Temperatures overnight will drop only into the middle to upper 70s. Little relief for the extreme heat is expected until early next week when a cold front drops into the area. The beaches should see generally sunny skies at the end of the week as highs reach the upper 80s to lower 90s. Ocean temperatures range from the lower 80s along the Crystal Coast to the 70s along the Outer Banks. The tropics still remain quiet so it should be a great beach weekend.
