Dry Weather Expands Across North Carolina

Dry weather continues to intensify across portions of North Carolina.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms during the past few days haven't been enough to erase the problem with dry conditions across much of North Carolina.  The latest drought report indicates that only a small area from Charlotte to Fayetteville is the only section of the state that doesn't have at least abnormally dry conditions.  A moderate drought has developed over the northern counties from Ahoskie to Roxboro, including much of the northern Piedmont.  Also, moderate drought conditions exist near Boone in the northwest and around Cherokee in the southwest.  Scattered to widely scattered thunderstorms are expected through the weekend but widespread heavy rainfall is not likely soon.  Long-range forecasts suggest extreme heat could return by the middle of next week along with drier weather conditions.
