Rain Finally Returns To Eastern North Carolina

Much of eastern North Carolina has received beneficial rainfall over the past few days.

Eastern North Carolina has finally started to get some rain after a long dry spell.  The dry period in much of June and the first week of July was accompanied by temperatures that were well above normal.  The intense heat caused evaporation rates to increase and parched the soil in many communities.  Gardeners, farmers and folks concerned about their lawns have benefit ted from the increase in moisture.  Rainfall amounts have quite a bit but most folks have received anywhere from one to three inches of rain since Saturday.  It appears that showers and thunderstorms will become more widely scattered over the next few days although there will be a 20% to 30% risk of getting wet each afternoon and evening.  One thing that won't go away is the heat.  We should see lower to middle 90s each afternoon through the weekend.  Heat indices will likely reach 100 degrees or higher during the afternoons.
