There has been a long dry spell across eastern North Carolina over the past several weeks. Moderate drought conditions have returned to portions of our area and conditions are getting worse for gardeners and farmers. It looks like Saturday will be the best chance for rainfall that we've seen for quite a while. An approaching cold front will help to create a large area of moist and unstable air ahead of it on Saturday. The front will push into the coastal plain by early evening generating numerous showers and thunderstorms. The showers and thunderstorms should continue into and possibly through Saturday night. Current rainfall projections are for an average of one-half to one inch of rainfall, with locally heavier amounts. Let's hope we finally get some much needed rainfall. Temperatures will rebound into the lower to middle 90s early next week.
