Heat Wave Will East A Bit

The latest heat wave across eastern North Carolina will will get tempered a little over the next few days.

The second major wave of heat this summer will gradually come to an end Thursday and Friday.  Temperatures will cool down slightly as some clouds and a risk of showers moves into the area.  Still, highs are still expected to be above normal each day over the next week.  The major weather problem now is the lack of rainfall over the past few weeks.  For the year most locations are about average with rainfall.  However, the extreme heat has caused surface moisture to evaporate and many crops are now entering a critical stage of growth.  Any shower activity Thursday and Friday will be isolated.  More widespread shower and thunderstorm activity will develop Saturday as a cold front approaches eastern North Carolina from the northwest.  Lower to middle 90s can be expected through the weekend.
