Eastern North Carolina will catch a lucky break from the heat over the July 4 Weekend. A cold front passed through the area Thursday bringing cooler temperatures and much drier air. In fact, near record low temperatures can be expected the next two nights as inland locations will likely drop into the upper 50s. High pressure will ensure plenty of sunshine for the holiday weekend. Highs will reach the lower to middle 80s Friday then slowly warm to about 90° on Sunday. The beaches will stay about 5° to 8° cooler with a light onshore breeze both Friday and Saturday. By Sunday and early next week we'll see a return of southwesterly winds, which will allow hotter air to move into the area. Most locations will see highs in the middle to upper 80s during the first half of next week. In the meantime enjoy the weekend but slather on the sunscreen if you stay outside for very long.
