Dry Weather Still A Concern In Eastern North Carolina

Very hot conditions have some folks concerned a drought may be on the way.

Temperatures remained just below 90° in most locations on Friday but that will only be a temporary break from the excessive heat experienced across eastern North Carolina so far in June.  Rainfall has been running at or slightly above normal for the year.  However, we've seen increasingly dry conditions over the past few weeks.  A few spots have been lucky but most locations have seen well below normal rainfall since June 1.  Currently, no sections of eastern North Carolina are under drought conditions but some coastal communities are abnormally dry. The prospects for significant rainfall is not that great over the next week.  The lack of rain ,combined with very hot temperatures, will create dry soil conditions by early next week.  The long-range prospects look at bit brighter.  Near to slightly above normal rainfall has been projected for our area during July and August.
