It is really beginning to feel like summer across eastern North Carolina. The official start to summer is still about 10 days away but you wouldn't know it by the way it feels outside. Like most folks, I tend to stay inside more as the weather gets hotter. That will certainly be the case this weekend into Monday. Inland communities will see highs in the middle 90s with heat indices around 100° to 104°. By Sunday and Monday most of inland North Carolina will be close to or under a heat advisory.
You do have at least one other option if you get tired of staying indoors. We are fortunate enough to have great beaches and they will be somewhat cooler than areas away from the coast. The beaches will see highs in the middle 80s Saturday and middle to upper 80s on Sunday. The most likely coastal area to reach 90° will be the northern Outer Banks where southwesterly winds could push the hot air down to the water. Winds will blow gently onshore Saturday and that will have some cooling effect along the immediate beaches. The wind will tend to go more offshore Sunday and Monday making it quite warm on the coast. Either way it will still be more pleasant near the water than away from it for the next few days.
