Some of the hottest air of 2010 will move into eastern North Carolina over the weekend. Highs will reach the middle 90s across inland locations while the beaches hold in the middle 80s. Heat index values will likely reach 100° during the afternoon and early evening both days. Any thunderstorms are likely to be quite limited and confined to late Saturday and again Sunday afternoon and evening. The heat will last into Monday as highs once again reach the middle 90s. Although we may see a brief break by the middle of next week, it now appears another siege of very hot conditions will envelop the area during the last two weeks of June into early July. Get the air conditioners ready if your haven't already.
