We've had a very warm and humid week across eastern North Carolina with temperatures in the middle to upper 80s during the afternoon. We should see similar temperatures on Friday but hotter air is on the way for the weekend. The main reason for the rise in temperatures will be less cloud cover and only widely scattered thunderstorms, In addition, winds will blow from the southwest, which is an offshore breeze. The combination of these events will push hot air into our coastal locations. Highs on the beaches should reach the middle to upper 80s. except closer to 80° along the Crystal Coast and southern Outer Banks. The northern Outer Banks could see highs close to 90° both afternoons. Inland highs will top out in the lower 90s, with a few locations reaching the middle 90s. Slightly cooler air will arrive early next week but it looks like summertime weather is here to stay for a while.
