The weather will cooperate with the official first day of spring on Saturday afternoon. Spring officially begins at 1:32 p.m. eastern daylight time. Temperatures finally began to feel like spring on Friday afternoon as we reached the lower 70s inland and middle to upper 60s along the coast. The first spring weekend will see temperatures skyrocketing into the middle to upper 70s in most sections, with the exception of upper 60s along the Outer Banks and Crystal Coast. The warm conditions will last until a cold front arrives on Monday. Springtime showers and thunderstorms are likely to erupt ahead of the cold front. We may even see some strong storms on Monday as the front crosses the area. Nicer weather should return by Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.
