It has been a cold winter across eastern North Carolina and it looks like the weather pattern will remain chilly for the next week. Temperatures this winter have averaged about 3 to 4 degrees below normal since December with above normal ice and snow. The average yearly snowfall in eastern North Carolina ranges from about 1 inch along the Outer Banks to 7 inches along the Virginia border from Roanoke Rapids to Ahoskie. Almost all areas have seen their snowfall above normal this winter and the winter is not over yet. Current forecasts suggest that below normal temperatures could last through much of March.
