The Rain Keeps Coming

More heavy rain is expected for eastern North Carolina on Friday.

Eastern North Carolina has received and incredible amount of rain since November and another storm is on the way this week.  The new storm will likely bring 1 to 2 inches to most locations with some locally heavier amounts.  A Flood Watch has been issued for all of our area until Saturday morning.  The new storm is part of a series of storms that has developed since El Nino formed in the central Pacific Ocean last fall.  El Nino occurs when Pacific Ocean temperatures near the equator go well above normal.  This warming helps to increase the number and intensity of storms moving through the southern United States.  El Nino usually develops about every 4 to 5 years and lasts for about 9  months to 1 year.  The current El Nino is expected to weaken by late spring and summer.
