Baby It's Cold Outside

The coldest air mass of the season has made its way into the east, and will be sticking around for several days to come.

Arctic high pressure to our north and northwest will continue to usher in the coldest air of the season for eastern Carolina. Through the end of 2009, the east dodged a bullet as far as intense cold. But now that 2010 is here, we're not so lucky anymore. Now you may be a fan of the cold weather. Being from the north I actually enjoy the cold weather in winter, it defines the season.

The good news about this cold snap is our swampy ground from all the recent rain will become a little more stable. We don't have to worry about gray days in the days to come. It seems like we've seen a lot of cloudy weather, so this is a nice change of pace. During the cold weather you'll want to make sure you check on elderly folks to see if they are getting enough heat. Check on pipes around the house and make sure they are covered, and make sure Fido has a warm place to stay.

A warm up is not in the card for eastern Carolina for some time. As far as precipitation, there could be some by the end of the week, but we'll continue to watch it, as the computer models will have plenty of time to figure out the trend at that time.
