Temperatures have turned colder but will snow fall before Christmas Day.

Colder air has moved into eastern North Carolina just in time for Christmas.  Temperatures will get no higher than the 40s over the next week with several nights below freezing.  One storm will arrive late Friday and produce mainly rain for our area.  Some snow and sleet could fall in our northern counties at the onset of the precipitation and also as it ends but no significant accumulation is likely.  Another storm will arrive by Christmas Day but early indications point to mainly rain.  Of course, it is still a week away and in weather many things can happen by then.  The cold weather is likely to extend into the first of the year.  The odds are not great for snow this time of year since we've only seen one White Christmas over the last 60 to 70 years.  So will there be a White Christmas this year?  We'll know in eight days.
