Lots of cloudy days and the shortened sunlight is certainly making it look like winter across eastern North Carolina. The leaves are changing color and falling off the trees. It can only be a matter of time before "real" winter begins. It has been relatively mild thus far in November. Our temperatures have averaged about 1 degree above normal since the beginning of the month. Looking over the past years there appears to be little correlation between November temperatures and winter which begins in December. Meteorologists usually define winter as December through February although the calender indicates winter doesn't start until December 21. Early projections for December call for near to slightly below normal temperatures so it looks like winter will be knocking at our door soon.
