September Temperatures Below Normal

It was a cooler than normal September across eastern North Carolina.

September wasn't as warm as usual this year.  Temperatures averaged about 1.6° below normal and never hit 90° for the entire month.  The coolest conditions occurred during the last week when temperatures fell into the upper 40s.  The WITN Weather Station received 3.09" for the month, which was slightly below the long-term average.  Seasonable weather is expected as we move into the month of October.  The Climate Prediction Center indicates that temperatures and rainfall for October should be near normal.  We should see a slow change of color on our deciduous trees in the weeks to come.  We typically peak with our fall foliage in late October or early November.
