Dry conditions have returned to a good portion of North Carolina. The Piedmont area of North Carolina has now returned to moderate drought conditions. The area extends from Charlotte to Greensboro and southeast to Fayetteville. Portions of eastern North Carolina are now abnormally dry. Many locations along and west of Highway 17 to Interstate 95 fall into that category. Coastal communities are considered to be normal at this point . The forecast for fall indicates near normal rainfall for eastern North Carolina. The winter forecast from the Climate Prediction Center indicates slightly above normal rainfall for our area. Drought conditions are not expected to return through early next year.
