A Hot August For The East

As August draws to a close, so does the heat for several days.

If you thought it was a hot August for Eastern Carolina you weren't alone. Out of 31 days, 18 of them had 90 plus degree heat. We had two stretches of six consecutive days of 90 plus degree heat. From August 17th through the 22nd, we had 90 one day, 93 for four days, and 92 for one day. From August 25th through August 30th, we had 90 degrees four times, 91 one time, and 92 once. The average high for August barely touches 90 degrees, then falls back to around 86 degrees by the end of the month. Although summer heat  is normal for this region, the 90s this month coupled with the humidity, made it downright miserable at times. Heat indexes were well over 100 degrees, remember those days. Well I'm happy to say we're going to see a break from the 90s until further notice. A cold front moving into the region will stall over us the next several days, leading to cooler and wetter conditions. Expect temperatures struggling through the 70s the early part of the week. By the later part of the week, the rain chances decrease with the warmth coming back. Temperatures warm into the low and mid 80s into next weekend. But no 90s for a while.
