Eastern North Carolina will see temperatures reach their highest point of the summer season by early next week. A strong ridge of high pressure will develop over the area at the surface and aloft. Skies will become mostly sunny this weekend into early next week as the high builds. The increased amount of sunshine and warmth and drying soils will allow temperatures to reach the middle to upper 90s during the afternoon. Relative humidity values are expected to be in the moderate range and that could take heat indices into the range of 105° to 110° by Monday and Tuesday. Heat advisories may be needed at that time. If you like summer, you'll love the next week.
