Yes, it's true. I do not, nor have I ever owned a cell phone. Before you gasp in horror...know this: My life has continued on in a fairly typical, normal fashion, with no outwardly obvious side effects. I have not yet been stranded hopelessly from the outside world. I've maintained normal, regularly spaced correspondence with all friends, associates, and loved ones & I've never had someone blaring their car horn at me while sitting at a green light
This is not an anti-cell phone blog. Certainly nearly all would agree that the advantages of cell phones far outweigh the disadvantages. The number of lives saved since the advent of the cell phone alone ends most arguments against it. So why haven't I joined the overwhelming majority? Two reasons: 1) Yet another monthly bill & 2) Pervasive calls at any time, in any location. Actually by now I could add my own stubbornness to the list. The day will come, probably not too far in the future, where I will give in to my family and friends and join the world of the text messaging. But for now I can continue to say life without cell phone is actually possible, and perhaps, maybe even desirable.
