Rainfall Near Normal For Year

Rainfall has returned to normal this year after two years of drought conditions.

We have kicked off the first five months of 2009 with near normal rainfall.  At the end of May the WITN Weather Station was only .34" below normal for the year.  The average rainfall for the first five months is 18.60."  The 18.26" we've received so far this year has kept the soil fairly moist for farmers and gardeners.  The showers have come often enough to prevent dry conditions from developing.  The new summer forecast calls for near normal rainfall for most of North Carolina.  Showers are likely over the next few days and its possible we could actually be above normal for the year by the weekend or early next week.  We haven't seen that happen for several years.
