The calendar may indicate that June 21 is the first day of summer but in eastern North Carolina I usually say that summer begins with Memorial Day. Over the last few days we've seen highs in the middle to upper 80s and even around 90° on Friday. A weak cold front will pass through our area overnight but temperatures will not change very much. In fact, we should still see middle 80s on Saturday behind the front while Sunday and Monday could see temperatures approach 90° once again. More heat is expected the end of next week although we should see more showers and thunderstorms at that time. It sure feels like summer to me. In the meantime let's enjoy the weekend.
