I always tell folks who vacation or have recently moved to eastern North Carolina that summer weather here is always hot. I guess that statement isn't completely true since we do see clouds and showers that temper the temperatures even in the middle of summer. Even those days with showers can feel just very warm and steamy. When showers cool our temperatures it very likely means that our heat index will be high since the increased relative humidity will make it feel warmer. If you're working outdoors it can feel just as hot after a brief shower than if the sun was shining. I'll agree that it may not reach 90° every day in summer but it can feel like the 90s even on days when the temperatures may only reach 85°. So what is the forecast for this summer. It looks like our temperatures should average near normal for the period of June to August. Rainfall should be near normal and that could be great news for farmers and gardeners after several dry summers. I'll give you an update as we get deeper into the season.
