An Unusually Cold Night

Cold air returned on Thursday night and dropped temperatures to the freezing mark in some locations.

It was a very cold night for April 17th across all of eastern North Carolina.  Overnight lows fell to the freezing mark in several communities.  It was the coldest night so far this month despite the fact we're over half-way through April.  Frost was reported across nearly all inland communities.  Even locations near the beaches got some patchy light frost.    Some chilly overnight lows include:

Kenansville - 30

Richlands - 30

Greenville - 30

Jacksonville - 31

Newport - 31

Elizabeth City - 32

Washington - 32

Kinston - 32

New Bern - 34

After sunrise temperatures shot up rapidly and eventually reached 70° along and west of Highway 17.  We're in store for another chilly night as high pressure moves close to us.  The weekend looks delightful as temperatures jump into the upper 70s to near 80° inland each day.  Clouds will increase by Sunday afternoon but overall it should be a beautiful weekend.
