Temperatures averaged below normal during March across eastern North Carolina.

The month of March turned out rather chilly after a seasonable winter season.  March temperatures averaged between 1.5° and 2.0° below normal across eastern North Carolina.  The month started out quite cold with the first two days at or below freezing.  Temperatures were balanced out a bit at the end of the month as warmer readings occurred.  It reached the upper 70s on the last Sunday of the month.  It was also a wet month with just over 5 inches at the WITN Weather Station.  Compared to last year we are ahead by about an inch.  However, we are still below the long-term average for the first three months by about an inch.  More showers are in the forecast for the end of the week.
