The month of March turned out rather chilly after a seasonable winter season. March temperatures averaged between 1.5° and 2.0° below normal across eastern North Carolina. The month started out quite cold with the first two days at or below freezing. Temperatures were balanced out a bit at the end of the month as warmer readings occurred. It reached the upper 70s on the last Sunday of the month. It was also a wet month with just over 5 inches at the WITN Weather Station. Compared to last year we are ahead by about an inch. However, we are still below the long-term average for the first three months by about an inch. More showers are in the forecast for the end of the week.
