We've had a quiet month across eastern North Carolina but the severe weather season should begin this weekend. A strong cold front and an unstable atmosphere will create conditions that could lead to severe weather by late Saturday or Sunday. Last year was a very active severe weather season in which much of the area saw severe thunderstorms and even a few tornadoes. This year has been tame by comparison but that tranquility may not last much longer. The Severe Storms Forecast Center in Norman, Oklahoma has put all of North Carolina in a slight risk for severe weather, especially for Saturday night and early Sunday. There is certainly no way to determine just how significant the severe weather will be but it would be advisable to follow later statements concerning this situation.
