It is always fun to anticipate the warmth and beauty of spring across eastern North Carolina. By the end of February I'm one of those that is really looking forward to spring. The winter has been harsh at times but overall conditions have been close to normal. We've seen 5.25" of snow at the WITN Weather Station this year, which is actually about 1 inch above the long-term average for winter. Temperatures during February have averaged near normal so far although we've definitely seen some very cold nights with lows well down into the 20s. The weekend will moderate just a bit before colder air arrives Sunday afternoon. The cold air will linger into early next week but a nice warming trend should begin by Wednesday. We could see highs in the lower to middle 60s on Thursday and Friday. I don't want anyone to get the idea that winter is over but it will be nice to see those more springlike temperatures, even if they only last for a couple of days. We should see more of those warmer temperatures as we get deeper into March and April.
