The Dead Of Winter is Here...And The Cold Will Follow

For eastern Carolina... the next 10 days coming up are typically the coldest of the year.

We're heading into the depth of winter across the country...as the middle of January is the coldest climate-wise...but not necessarily on the thermometer. Moving from the cold and white north..I can get used to an average high of 51 and average low of 31 as the coldest averages of the winter. In fact the average high of 51 and average low of 31 stay that way until January 21st when the average high goes from 51 to 52...then it's summer just around the corner. Well not exactly. As we head into the middle and later portions of next week the models are suggesting a cold trough of low pressure over the east coast. What this means is that very icy air that's been across Alaska and northwest Canada will enter the lower 48 and affect much of the east coast. This could mean highs only in the 30's and 40's...with lows in the teens and 20's. It remains to be seen if any snow will fall across the region. If we do get a little snow cover that could knock down temperatures another 10 degrees. In any case snow or no snow...it's going to be cold into next weekend.
