After last weeks tropical airmass that brought 70+ degree warmth...we had a cool down that brought us back to reality...for a while. As we head into a new work week....we'll see temperatures climbing to unseasonable levels once again. Maybe not as warm as the 70's...but the mercury will be well into the 60's the first half of the week. Along with the warmth there is a chance for some shower activity as well.
The reason for the warmth is a strong jet stream that is off to the west of eastern Carolina. As long as we stay east of the jet stream we'll see a milder weather regime. Much of the nation is in the icebox because they are on the cold side of the jet stream. In fact... New Orleans had a rare snowfall last week because the jet stream dipped down...all the way to the Gulf coast. Very unusual. With the jet stream racing to our west we don't have to worry about any major cold air outbreaks...or any major storms for that matter.
