Wet Weather Returns
Sunny and cool days will be replaced with wet and warmer for the next few days.
Autumn weather can be absolutely beautiful across Eastern North Carolina and we've surely had a nice dose of it this week. Conditions will be changing for the latter part of the week and weekend. A slow moving cold front, with southerly winds ahead of it, will bring the threat of showers starting early Thursday and not ending until late Saturday. Heavy rainfall could occur in some areas over the next few days in the warm and humid air mass. Rainfall across the area is still well below normal this year. For example, rainfall is running just over 8 inches below normal at the WITN weather station since January 1. The showers coming this week are a welcome sight but will surely not be enough to end the two-year drought. The showers should finally get swept out to sea Saturday night as a strong cold front pushes off the coast. Colder air will surge into the region giving us a taste of winter by the end of the weekend and early next week.
