Another Cold Night

The chill has started early this year but will it continue.

Temperatures plummeted to the upper 20s and lower 30s across much of interior Eastern North Carolina last night.  Tonight promises to be just as cold as the very low temperatures will be accompanied by nearly calm winds and widespread frost.  Nearly all of the area is under a freeze warning except for the immediate Outer Banks.  The freeze and frost conditions are about two weeks ahead of schedule this year and the big question is whether this is the start of a colder than normal winter.  At this point there are no indications that will be the case.  In fact, temperatures over the next week should return to near normal readings with highs in the upper 60s and lows in the 40s.  By the middle of next week some areas could return to the lower to middle 70s for a couple of days.  One thing is for sure.  The sunny days, chilly nights and pleasant afternoons make the colors of the fall foliage look beautiful this week.
