Fall Foliage Across North Carolina

Leaves continue to change color across North Carolina as we reach the end of October.

Fall foliage is reaching its peak across western North Carolina and from all reports it has been a magnificent season. The highest hills are past peak but elevations below about 3,000 feet are showing their best color of the fall. Areas farther east in the foothills and western Piedmont should be peaking during the middle and latter part of the upcoming week. Areas around Raleigh and Chapel Hill should see their best color at the end of the month. The colors are typically not as brilliant along and east of Interstate 95 but the chilly nights and mild afternoons should brighten the dogwoods and oaks. Fall foliage along and east of Interstate 95 should reach their most colorful period during the first week of November while coastal locations will be a few days later. Current forecasts indicate a better than average season for our area. Let's enjoy the beauty of the season before it disappears.
