Near Freezing Temperatures Likely Next Week

By: WITN Weather

By early next week a strong cold front will usher in the coldest air so far this season.

Fall is typically a beautiful time of the year in Eastern North Carolina.  We see a lot of mild days and cool to chilly nights.  Every now and then we get a strong cold front and one of those will arrive early next week.  Freezing temperatures are extremely rare in our area during October although we frequently see some patchy frost by the end of the month.  The air behind the cold front moving through our area early next week may just be cold enough to send some communities to the freezing mark by the Wednesday or Thursday.  Typically, we see our first freeze well inland during the first week of November but some coastal communities may not reach 32° until later in November or December due to the warm ocean water during the fall.  Current forecasts would suggest middle 30s by next Wednesday morning but we will likely have to update those numbers over the weekend and early next week.  Many areas could surely see a heavy frost even if we don't quite make it to 32°.  Stay tuned and we'll keep you on top of our chill next week.
