The upcoming weather pattern suggests that inland areas of North Carolina may see an early freeze this year.
Of course its too early to know for sure but there are strong hints that an early freeze may be coming to inland areas of Eastern North Carolina in late October or early November. The jet stream is expected to dip into the Southeast around the end of this month and that should allow a significant amount of chilly air to drill into the area. It is certainly not unusual for us to get a bit of frost in the middle or latter part of October. I certainly saw that happen several times when I was growing up as a child here. However, it is rare to have a freeze before the second week of November. For most areas the average freeze date is between November 10 to 15 although some coastal locations don't typically see a freeze until December. Time will tell and I'll certainly give an update as we get closer.
