| Hurricane Ike continues on a slow west to northwest journey through the Gulf of Mexico while growing stronger by the hour. The storm could will likely become a category 3 storm by Friday with sustained winds of at least 115 mph. There is even a chance Ike could become a category 4 storm with sustained winds over 130 mph. The storm will likely end up along the central or upper Texas coast by Saturday with a potential hit near the Galveston and Houston area. Folks along the Texas coast are getting ready for what could be a ferocious storm. Meanwhile the remainder of the Atlantic Basin remains quiet except for one feature. The remnants of Tropical Storm Josephine can be seen by satellite moving slowly westward about 800 miles ENE of Puerto Rico. The system is not expected to develop over the next couple of days but it does bear watching as it moves into or near the Bahamas late this weekend. |
