The Tropics Are Hopping Now

As we near the peak of the hurricane season....around the 10th of September...a volley of tropical systems could be aiming for the U.S.

Conditions are revving up in the tropics as we near the peak of the hurricane season.

Hurricane Gustav is passing over the western tip of Cuba this evening with devastating winds and rain. Even the Florida Keys are in on some squally conditions...with 50 mph wind gusts and a tornado threat.

We also have Tropical Storm Hanna which is slowly developing because of the powerful nature of Gustav. Hanna is expected to continue in a general westerly direction the next several days...and definitely bears watching up and down the east coast.

There's another wave 1000 miles east-northeast of the Leeward Islands which has the possibility of developing the next several days.

And yet another strong wave is moving off the African coast...about 125 miles southwest of the Cape Verde Islands...and also has the potential for development.

So hang on for a potentially bumpy ride as Ike and Josephine could be developing in the next several days.
