Feels Like Late Summer

A warm breeze continues but the intensity of the sun just isn't like June and July.

Temperatures are still quite warm across Eastern North Carolina but it seems to have tempered a bit over the last two weeks.  The average temperature during the daytime has dropped three degrees already.  In mid-July the average high was 90° but now it is 87°.  Of course, if you're outside working it still seems hot but the intensity of the sun is not quite as great.  The summer solstice occurred two months ago and that is when the sun is the most directly over our area.  Since that time the sun is beaming down on us at a slightly lower angle.  Yes, its still hot and we can even hit 90° or higher during September but the worst of the heat is probably behind us.  In front of us is an active tropical season that could bring a tropical storm or hurricane into or close to the area.  I'll be watching for that prospect over the next few weeks.
