Why doesn't it rain at my house?

Ever get the feeling...more times than not...that a lot of the rain and thunderstorm activity misses your house? You're not alone.

Why does it feel sometimes the weather gods are out to get you. I've heard a lot of folks say that the rain is avoiding their house or neighborhood....and it seems there's some kind of meteorological "bubble" over their neighborhood...that deflects the showers and thunderstorms around them.

I've even heard some folks say that when a cold front approaches the I-95 corridor...they fizzle out. Or a perfectly structured line of showers and thunderstorms weaken...split...die...what have you. There are meteorological reasons for this. Keep in mind...we remain in moderate drought conditions across eastern North Carolina. We're approaching the "dog days" of summer....so a lot of cold fronts that head for our region...typically stall before they get to the coast. And it's the time of the year when we get the "hit and miss" thunderstorms. For one viewer in Pamlico Beach...it's been "miss" with only .52" this summer....ouch! That was a couple of weeks ago...I hope it's improved.

Living in Greenville...we had a nice shot of rain this past week...with at least 2.50"...with higher amounts across Pitt county. In fact much of the WITN viewing area saw some decent measurable rain this past week.

So hang in there eastern North Carolina...hopefully your "bubble" will burst as we head into late summer and early Fall.

It really does seem as though the majority of the rain misses Greenville. I've seen radar showing thunderstorms north and south of Greenville several times.
