Much Needed Rain Moves In

A weak cold front and warm, moist air came together Wednesday to produce numerous showers and thunderstorms.

Eastern North Carolina is finally starting to see much needed rainfall.  Early in the week some scattered showers began to fall but were widely scattered.  More numerous showers moved into the area on Wednesday and brought welcome rainfall.  Greenville had received. .83" by early evening with lesser amounts elsewhere.  A weak cold front combined with the very warm, moist air mass produced the showers on Wednesday.  The front will continue to hand around the area into Thursday giving us more chances at rain.  The drought remains across Eastern North Carolina but recent showers have certainly put a dent into the parched ground.  Some crops, especially corn, were hurt by the drought conditions in late spring into early July.  Other crops have fared a bit better but almost everyone is finally glad to see the showers return.  Typical late July conditions can be expected through the weekend with highs near 90° and a continuing risk of hit and miss showers.
